Steps
Step 1
Start creating the pie crust. Combine together the butter and plain flour in a bowl until a crumble texture. Add the salt, then begin to add the tablespoons of water until a dough is formed. Use extra water if required. Kneed until dough is formed, roll into a ball and cover in a bowl with cling film and place in refrigerator.
Step 2
Peel and slice 2 large cooking apples or 8 Granny Smith apples
Step 3
Place the apples into a bowl, add the nutmeg, salt, cinnamon, sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and lemon and stir in and mix together.
Step 4
Remove the pie crust dough from the refrigerator and separate the dough into two balls. Roll out the balls into a lightly floured surface
Step 5
Grease a pie dish and place one of the rolled out dough balls into the pie dish to create the crust
Step 6
Pour the apple mixture into the pie.
Step 7
With the second rolled out dough, create slices and begin to cover the pie in a lattice pattern
Step 8
Beat the egg in a jug separately, and brush the top of the pie, lastly coat with 2 table spoons of sugar
Step 9
Heat the oven to 200c fan assisted and bake for 30-50 minutes or until the crust is golden.
